
Lions' Morris Wins Player of the Week
February 14, 2012ROCK HILL, S.C. – Mars Hill pitcher/designated player Taylor Morris has been voted the SAC Softball Player of the Week, while Lenoir-Rhyne’s Dawon Millwood was tabbed the conference’s Pitcher of the Week, it was announced on Tuesday.
Morris has been a major factor in Mars Hill’s fast start this season. In eight games last week, the junior posted seven home runs, 22 RBI, a .625 batting average and a slugging percentage of 1.54. Morris has two multi-home run games to her credit this season.
The Weddington, N.C. native also contributed in the circle as she posted 25 strikeouts and an ERA of 3.25. Morris has pitched 28 innings and owns a record of 3-1.
Millwood, the reigning SAC Pitcher of the Year, dominated in the circle for the Bears, tallying 26 strikeouts and a 0.88 ERA in five games. The senior totaled just five walks in 24 innings pitched.
In her first start of the season, the Hixson, Tenn., native tossed a complete game, allowing only four hits while striking out nine in a 6-1 victory over Belmont Abbey.
