
Men's Soccer Prevails Over Bears

MARS HILL, N.C. – The no. 19 Lions’ men’s soccer team defeated SAC foe Lenoir-Rhyne, 3-1 Wednesday night in the Ammons Family Athletic Center and Meares Stadium. Mars Hill improved to 10-2 overall and 5-1 in the SAC. The Bears fell to 5-5-2 on the season, 2-3-1 in the conference.
Stephen Bivens scored the first goal of the match at the 22:50 mark on a deflection off the post. The ball was sent in by Chad Langley. The teams carried that score into the locker room at halftime.
Shadi Harb gave the Lions a 2-0 advantage in the 52nd minute on a penalty kick. Stephen Bivens extended the Lions lead to 3-0 at the 62:20 mark scoring off a long pass from Chad Langley.
Santiago Asprilla scored the Bears lone goal on a through ball in the 81st minute. The goal was assisted by Raffaelle Di Puorto. That was the last score of the contest to make the final tally 3-1 in favor of the Lions.
Mars Hill outshot the Bears, 27-9. The Lions recorded five corner kicks to the Bears’ one. Zac Scott played all 90 minutes in goal for MHC and made four saves. Stefan Dill also played the entire match in goal for L-R and made 20 saves.
Mars Hill will host Newberry College on October 12, 2012. Game time for the Lions’ annual Senior Night will be 7:30 p.m.
