MARS HILL, N.C. – The no. 9 Mars Hill men’s soccer team defeated Erskine College, 2-0 Saturday afternoon in the Ammons Family Athletic Center and Meares Stadium. The Lions improved to 3-1 on the year while the Flying Fleet fell to 2-1-1 on the season.
Stephen Bivens scored the first goal of the match at the 27:07 mark from 20 yards out on a pass from Felipe Ferraro. Craig Carwood scored the second and final goal of the match from 30 yards out. The goal was unassisted. Neither team could find the net in the second half.
MHC outshot Erskine, 32-10. The Lions had seven corner kicks as opposed to none for the Flying Fleet. Erskine was called offsides twice while the Lions were called offsides once. Zac Scott played the entire match in goal for the Lions and made six saves. He recorded his first shutout of the season this afternoon. Roberto De La Vina also played 90 minutes in the net for Erskine and made 14 saves.
The Lions will host Lees-McRae College on September 12. The game is slated to start at 7 p.m.
