MARS HILL, N.C. – The Lions’ men’s soccer team defeated SAC rival Lincoln Memorial University, 2-1 Friday night in the Ammons Family Athletic and Meares Stadium. MHC improved to 5-1 overall and 1-0 in the SAC. LMU fell to 3-1 on the season and 0-2 in the league.
Nathaniel Enos gave the Lions a 1-0 lead at the 71:26 mark when he scored off a cross from Shadi Harb. The teams carried that score into the locker room at halftime.
Diego Deschamp tied the contest (1-1) at the 59:50 mark off a rebound. The ball was sent in by Fabio Fukumoto.
Harb notched the match winner at the 10:57 mark on a penalty kick. The Lions defense held strong in the final 10 minutes of play to obtain their first SAC win of the season.
LMU outshot the Lions, 22-21. The Railsplitters edged MHC in corner kicks, 7-5. The Lions were called offsides once. Zac Scott played the entire contest in goal for MHC and made 11 saves. Marcel Barwanietz also played 90 minutes in the net for LMU and made seven saves.
Mars Hill will play at Tusculum College on September 19. Game time is set for 4 p.m. start.
