GREENEVILLE, Tenn.-- Mars Hill's men's soccer team scored four unanswered goals to open the scoring and held on for a 4-2 victory over South Atlantic Conference foe Tusculum at Pioneer Field Thursday night.
Mars Hill scored two goals in the first seven minutes to build an early lead and never looked back. Stephen Bivens scored two goals, while Felipe Ferraro added a goal and an assist. Shadi Harb scored the other Lion goal and Zac Scott made four saves to earn the victory in net. Tusculum outshot the Lions 14-7 and got goals from Roberto Pimentel and Philip Wistrom. Mars Hill improved to 2-0 in SAC play, 6-1 overall. Tusculum is now 3-3-1 overall and 0-2 in conference play.
The Lions wasted no time getting on the board, with Ferraro netting Mars Hill's first goal 6:06 into the contest. Ferraro took a give-and-go on the break from Alex Mullen and found the back of the net for his second tally of the season and a 1-0 Lion lead. Mars Hill struck again just over a minute later on Bivens' first goal of the night. Ferraro and Harb picked up the assists.
Harb added an insurance goal for the Lions in the 58th minute on a blast from the left side. The goal was Harb's fourth of the season and made the score 3-0.
Bivens' second tally of the night gave Mars Hill a 4-0 lead in the 69th minute on the break. The goal was Bivens' fourth on the season, tying him with Harb for the team lead.
The Pioneers mounted a late threat with goals by Pimentel, in the 70th minute, and Wistrom, in the 82nd minute, but the Lions held on to earn the victory. Fredrik Muren and Pablo Laguna picked up assists on Wistrom's goal.
Mars Hill's next match will be this Saturday, Sept. 22 when they travel to conference rival Brevard for a 4:30 p.m. match.
